Is "Natural" or "Organic" Really What It's Says.

'Natural' meat doesn't  really mean all natural meats. So why are we paying for the meat that marked with this label. There are many companies that label stuff “Natural” or “Organic” and we are more likely to buy it at a high cost. Are we really getting all natural stuff.

On April 8, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia-a jurisdiction with stringent consumer protection laws-dismissed a lawsuit by the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) alleging Hormel was misleading consumers. In statements disclosed in the filing, a company executive said the same pigs it uses to make its famous Spam brand meat product are also used in Natural Choice pork products. Those pigs are often given antibiotics and are rarely allowed outdoors.

Most animals raised for meat in the U.S. spend their lives in conventional indoor agricultural systems, routinely receiving antibiotics and sometimes growth promoters. While this isn't what most consumers likely envision as "natural," it's a system that allows them to eat as much beef, pork, turkey and chicken as they want — no matter where they live or the time of year.

This is what we are paying high prices for. I have been buying my meat from a local meat market in my town. I can go there and they is a very person experience. If I have any special way I want the meat cut they will do that for me. The meat is cleaner and is fresh. The price is not much different then the regale store. Sometimes it's cheaper when they are running a sale.

If you want  meat that is more healthy for you you should see if there is a meat market near you. If you want to buy vegetable you should check for the closest farmers market to you. Most of the time you can ask questions about where they are get their product from. This is the best way to spend your money and be healthy are the same time.

New Pennsylvania Hunting Laws

There has been some changes made to the 2019 hunting laws for Pennsylvania. The changes bring with it a bunch of different opinions. I guess we will have to see if it really make a difference.

The opening day of rifle deer season moves from the Monday after Thanksgiving to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Those who supported the change believe it will entice more people to hunt. It will help hunters who can't get the first Monday after Thanksgiving off from work or school. Even though tradition is to have it the Monday after  Thanksgiving. Rifle deer season has started on the Monday after Thanksgiving since 1963. The change takes effect this year. The season will open on November 30, 2019.

The board gave preliminary approval to a change members believe will simplify the fluorescent orange guidelines for a select number of seasons. This proposal would eliminate the requirement to wear fluorescent orange at any time while archery hunting for deer or bear. This would eliminate the overlap periods when archery hunters are required to wear varying amounts of fluorescent orange while moving or post orange material while in a fixed position. The change would also eliminate the requirement for fall turkey hunters to wear fluorescent orange material.

All other seasons’ fluorescent orange requirements would remain the same. This measure will have a final vote at the board’s April meeting. Any changes would be put in place for the 2019-20 license year, beginning July 1. This change is NOT FINAL.

With all the changes that have been made or are currently being voted on, the next thing that will be brought up is hunting on Sundays. With the new law, you hunt for one day then can't the next. It doesn't make a lot of sense. I guess they didn't think it through.

An Outback Of Candida Auris A drug-Resistant Fungus

Candida auris is a drug-resistant fungus that has made 600 people across the United States very sick. In New York state there has been 300 patients. Candida auris,  preys on people with weakened immune systems, can be deadly.

The CDC says that the symptoms of this fungus may be difficult to detect because most of the people are already sick with something else. Candida auris can cause different types of infections, including bloodstream infection, wound infection, and ear infection. People who recently had surgery, live in nursing homes, or who have breathing tubes, feeding tubes or central venous catheters appear to be at highest risk.

Why is Candida auris a problem?

It causes serious infections.

It can cause bloodstream infections and even death, particularly in hospital and nursing home patients with serious medical problems. More than 1 in 3 patients with invasive C. auris infection (for example, an infection that affects the blood, heart, or brain) die.

It’s often resistant to medicines.

Antifungal medicines commonly used to treat Candida infections often don’t work for Candida auris. Some C. auris infections have been resistant to all three types of antifungal medicines.

It’s becoming more common.
Although C. auris was just discovered in 2009, it has spread quickly and caused infections in more than a dozen countries.

It’s difficult to identify.

It can be misidentified as other types of fungi unless specialized laboratory technology is used. This misidentification might lead to a patient getting the wrong treatment.

It can spread in hospitals and nursing homes.

It has caused outbreaks in healthcare facilities and can spread through contact with affected patients and contaminated surfaces or equipment. Good hand hygiene and cleaning in healthcare facilities is important because C. auris can live on surfaces for several weeks.

CDC and public health partners are working hard to better understand C. auris and answer the following questions so that we can continue to help protect people from this serious infection:

Why is it resistant to antifungal medicines?

Why did it start causing infections in recent years?

Where did it originally come from, and why has it appeared in many regions of the world at the same time?

As I learn more I will let you know. There isn't a hole lot on it right now. If you're in the at risk category you should talk to your Dr. about it. It never hurts to ask questions.

Lyme Disease is On The Rise.

With warm weather on the way Lyme disease can be a real threat. Lyme disease is caused by a bite from a deer tick or a black leg tick.  Although people may think of Lyme as an East Coast disease, it is found throughout the United States, as well as in more than sixty other countries.  It can affect any organ of the body, including the brain and nervous system, muscles and joints, and the heart.

Ticks love moist and humid environments, but they can adapt to any number of different areas. In general, ticks tend to live close to their hosts. This includes dog, cats, rodents, birds, deer and unfortunately, humans. Contrary to popular belief, ticks don’t live on their hosts. They are typically found outdoors, in wooded or grassy areas, where they attach to their host and begin to feed. After taking in a blood meal, the tick detaches itself from its host. It then goes on to either find a suitable spot to molt, or another host. It’s not common for most species of ticks to infest a structure, though the brown dog tick does reproduce indoors. Other species, such as the American dog tick and the lone star tick, prefer to lay their eggs on ground soil, so these ticks don’t typically live in your home – they live outdoors.

Knowing where ticks live outdoors and that you, your children and your pets are the biggest risk for transferring them indoors, is half the battle. Armed with this information, it’s up to you to take the proper precautions when going into areas where ticks live. For example, wearing long pants and sleeves, covering exposed skin and avoiding tick habitats whenever possible is a great start. Adding some tick repellent to your clothing and skin is an added level of protection.

If you've been bitten by a tick, call your doctor, who may prescribe antibiotics to prevent Lyme disease. You'll only get antibiotics if the tick that bit you was as a deer tick, was attached to you for at least 36 hours, and you have been in an area where there is a high risk of getting Lyme disease. Also you should….

How Do I Remove a Tick!
It's important to remove a tick as soon as possible. Follow these steps:

Use tweezers to grasp the tick firmly at its head or mouth, next to the skin

Pull firmly and steadily until the tick lets go of the skin. Do not twist the tick or rock it from side to side. Parts of the tick might stay in the skin, but eventually will come out on their own.

Put the tick in a jar or zip-locked bag in case you want to have the type identified later on.

Wash your hands and the site of the bite with soap and water.

Swab the bite site with alcohol.

Here is the signs of Lyme disease.

Skin Rash
Fever and Chills
Fatigue
Muscle and Joint Pain
Severe Headaches
Facial Palsy
Irregular Heart Beat
Abnormal Sensations in the Limbs
Inflammation at Several Sites
Cognitive Problems

So this can be a bad thing but if you know how to take care of it your should be good. By checking yourself daily you can help reduce the spread of Lyme disease.

A Plan And Place

There are many different reason for a prepper to perp. When prepping for any situation the only thing that every prepper does need is an adequate amount of food and water. Depending on the situation depends on what else you may have or need. Here are nine different preppers nightmares and some info on what you may end up with at the end of the preparation.

The collapse of monetary systems can be an epic event. Humanity sink under a widespread apocalypse would be catastrophic. The fall of the economy would be an unfortunate event. A government takeover would change everything. Global warming, embellishment of the national electrical grid would kill many. An EPM or an nuclear/ biological war would could be life changing. So there are some idea scenario we can look in to.

A good place to be when your preparation is complete is to have an underground bunker. A stockpile of ammo and weapons. A source of power, like a wind or solar system. Secure from airborne toxins. Of course you bunker should be fully stocked with food, water ect….

The idea end place if your not one to bug out, would consist of a very secured property. A good thing to have is a gate that is military grade. Shatterproof doors and a state of the art surveillance system. Of course it should be fully stocked with food, water ect….

Maybe a secluded piece of land with an good sources of water. You want to financial security. Have a some gold or silver to barter with others.  A source of power, like a wind or solar system. This is like the homestead idea. And of course you normal stock of food, water ect….

A prepper community is an another option. This is an self contained, self reliance compound. With warehouses full of supplies. You would be with others that have the same prepper ideas as you.  A source of power, like a wind or solar system. And you normal stock of food, water ect….

This is for the preppers that are worried about global warming. The idea  is to have a property that is above sea level. Around 1,200 feet or more. You should think about having a radio and communication support system. Antennas that receive voice, date and satellite information from around the world. A house that can withstand hurricane strength wind. Windows with power storm shutters.

The last idea is out there for most but cool. A large yacht. This could be your million dollar safe house. You could carry tons of supplies. Then you could find an island that you could eventually live on.

Relate article: Kinds of Preppers and what we are Preppering for.

These are some costly place to have. It’s not for everyone! You should try to take this and make it your own plan and place. Depending on what your planning for and  your needs, you can use this as a starting point for your place and plans. Just remember there are no actual set in stone place or plan. It ALL depends on your, finances, situation and your needs. There are thousands of preppers all with ideas. So the best thing for you to do is to listen and then form you own plan and place to fit you needs.

Expiration Date On Medicine

All medicine has an expiration date printed on it. This is required by the FDA. Everyone has been asking the same question. Can I take medicine past its expiration date?

So what does the expiration date mean? Is a medicine still safe to take after its expiration date? Will it cause harm or just not work after its expiration date? Neither fully explains what the expiration date means. Actually, it's the date up until which the drug manufacturer can guarantee that the medicine is fully potent and safe to take based on product testing. Expiration dates are typically conservative to make sure you get what you paid for—a fully potent and safe medicine. The effectiveness of a medicine may decrease over time, but studies have shown that much of the original potency still remains years after the expiration date. Excluding certain prescription medicines such as nitroglycerin, insulin, and liquid antibiotics, most medicines stored under reasonable conditions retain at least 70% to 80% of their original potency for at least 1 to 2 years after the expiration date, even after the container has been opened. So, if you have a headache one night, and you reach for your bottle of ibuprofen and find that it expired last year, chances are high that the medicine still has retained most of its potency.

However, it is still advisable to replace medicines that have expired years ago with a new supply. If you had to you could take expired medicines. I will not hurt you but, if you don't have to you shouldn’t.
