Raw honey has many benefits!

Raw honey has been used throughout history for the health benefits and medical uses. It’s even used in some hospitals as a treatment for wounds. Many of these health benefits are specific to raw, or unpasteurized, honey. Most of the honey you find in grocery stores is pasteurized. The high heat kills unwanted yeast, can improve the color and texture, removes any crystallization, and extends the shelf life. Many of the beneficial nutrients are also destroyed in the process. Here is a couple of those things. I was surprised about some of these benefits.
  Boosts Memory
The sweet nectar is loaded in antioxidants that may help prevent cellular damage and loss within the brain. A 2011 study published in Menopause found a daily spoonful of Malaysian honey may boost postmenopausal women’s memory, which can provide an alternative therapy for the hormone-related intellectual decline.

Honey’s ability to help the body absorb calcium, helps aid brain health. The brain needs calcium in order to process thought and make decisions. As our populations continue to get older and older, the likelihood of dementia setting in because of poor intake of vitamins and minerals continues to get higher and higher.

Coughing
Honey can be the all-natural cure when it comes to pesky colds. A persistent cough that won’t go away can easily be remedied with two teaspoons of honey.Children between the ages of 1 and 5 with nighttime cough due to colds coughed less frequently when they received two teaspoons of honey 30 minutes before bed. The golden liquid’s thick consistency helps coat the throat while the sweet taste is believed to trigger nerve endings that protect the throat from incessant coughing.

Natural Energy Source
Raw honey contains natural sugars (80 percent), water (18 percent), and minerals, vitamins, pollen and protein (2 percent). It’s not surprising that honey has been called “the perfect running fuel.” It provides an easily absorbed supply of energy in the form of liver glycogen, making it ideal for energetic morning starts and as a pre- and post-exercise energy source.

Diabetes Aid
Consumption of raw honey can reduce the risk of developing diabetes and help aid medication used to treat diabetes. The combination of raw honey and cinnamon can be especially beneficial to healthy blood sugar management, as well as many other health concerns like gingivitis and acne.

Controls Cholesterol
High cholesterol is a daunting health problem that should be dealt adequately and on time. Many studies have proved that honey is a healthy source to control high cholesterol levels. A study has even mentioned that consuming 70g of honey regularly for 30 days can reduce these levels by 3%. Surprisingly, with the help of the honey, you can increase good cholesterol levels.

It Promotes Sleep
Sleeping 8 hours without any disruption is extremely important for your well being. This is why; experts and dietitians suggest getting plenty of sleep and rest to combat health problems. However, not getting enough sleep can put your health at various risks.  It is where consuming it comes into an action. Eating a tablespoon of it before bedtime is recommended to insomniacs. This way, their liver glycogen stays up because if they get empty, your liver stops glucose formation, which is essential for producing energy. This process is said to prevent you from falling asleep as you should.

There is a lot more things that you can use honey besides eating it. Here are just a couple I thought was interesting.
